World News: Shooting at New Orleans Parade Injures 17

On a day when we should be celebrating our mother and all of her love and affection, three gunmen in New Orleans decided to use the festivities as a gun spree. New Orleans is known for their celebratory Mother's Day parade, and at 1:45pm, shots were reported to have rang out during the light-hearted festivities. Police reports indicate officers seeing three suspects running from the area, however no arrests have been made. So far, at least 17 people are injured, including a young, 10-year-old girl. Thankfully, there are no life threatening injuries to be wary of and no deaths have been reported.

As protocol for such public events, officers were scattered within the marchers. Up to 400 people were at the event; an event that stretched out through 3 blocks. Police Superintendant Ronal Serpas says that only half of those people were within range of the shooting. He swears to make swift arrests. "We'll get them. We have good resources in this neighbourhood," Serpas says.

This story is still developing, so more details will be out later in the week. What do you think could've been done to prevent this? In such a public event, do you think the officers that were present could have done more to protect the public or do you think that this was inevitable? Do you think that there was nothing that the police could've done, or do you think some precautioun measures could've been taken; such as, possibly, a coat/bag check, more police officers etc.? How quickly do you think arrests will be made? We want to see what YOU have to say! Leave comments below!
