Now, the injury count has gone up to 19 and two of three suspects have been arrested. They both are believed to be involved in gangs.

Scott is known to police for drug and weapon charges and is facing 20 counts of attempted second-degree murder. World News: Shooting at New Orleans Parade Injures 17

On a day when we should be celebrating our mother and all of her love and affection, three gunmen in New Orleans decided to use the festivities as a gun spree. New Orleans is known for their celebratory Mother's Day parade, and at 1:45pm, shots were reported to have rang out during the light-hearted festivities. Police reports indicate officers seeing three suspects running from the area, however no arrests have been made. So far, at least 17 people are injured, including a young, 10-year-old girl. Thankfully, there are no life threatening injuries to be wary of and no deaths have been reported.

As protocol for such public events, officers were scattered within the marchers. Up to 400 people were at the event; an event that stretched out through 3 blocks. Police Superintendant Ronal Serpas says that only half of those people were within range of the shooting. He swears to make swift arrests. "We'll get them. We have good resources in this neighbourhood," Serpas says.

This story is still developing, so more details will be out later in the week. What do you think could've been done to prevent this? In such a public event, do you think the officers that were present could have done more to protect the public or do you think that this was inevitable? Do you think that there was nothing that the police could've done, or do you think some precautioun measures could've been taken; such as, possibly, a coat/bag check, more police officers etc.? How quickly do you think arrests will be made? We want to see what YOU have to say! Leave comments below!

Politics at Sulli: The REAL Message Behind The Debates: Collab Article

A collaboration article by K. Herbst-Reid and D. de Gracia

On Wednesday May 1st, a group of Sulli students were able to experience what it was like to see first-hand what a debate between four political figures looked like. These four were Martin Hunt for the Liberals, Amrik Mahil for the NDP, Sara Sharma for the Green Party and Kevin Rakhra for the Conservatives. These four took to our auditorium and presented their “plans for our future” and their “plans for a better BC”. There was a question and answer period, but this raises the question: Why have a Q&A session when these four people dance around the questions anyway? Not sure what this is about? As a person there for myself and as a person who asked these people a question, I will happily explain.

Section by D. de Gracia

Many students asked their questions to these people. We, and I say we because I was doing this myself, lined up behind a microphone to voice our questions. One student in grade 12 asked what the candidates would do about the prices of housing rising due to foreign investors. The candidates she asked basically said “It is out of our control, it concerns legislature”. Basically an “I don’t know.” I would write the rest of what they said, but it was just a dance around the subject. Another student, in grade 10 this time, asked a candidate about how they would try to help our parent’s generation. The candidate basically replied “By boosting/improving our economy.” How would they do so? They never said. When I asked my question about how they would help students with student debt after post secondary education, one of them talked about how their party would make plans to give children who are now 6 money to their parents so that they could build up money for post secondary education. But what about us? It’s a good sounding plan for future kids, sure, but what about us? The ones graduating in two years? Next year? Three years from now? That plan only helps kids graduating 12 YEARS from now. They went on and on about OUR future, and OUR involvements in Canada. But throughout all these questions, the candidates dodged them and didn’t answer us. What does it say about them?

Section by K. Herbst-Reid

One grade 11 student came up to the mic and was pretty gutsy, saying they were just dodging question after question and weren’t really explaining WHAT they were going to do to help us in the future. They keep going on and on about giving us money for education and helping the these generation. But HOW?  How are they going to get the money? What about the last generations and our parents? Our parents are having trouble too, and they should be helping everyone! Not just us. They have great ideas and have big plans but how will they carry them out? When election day comes, I guess we’ll just have to see.

What's your opinion?

Sports: Hard Hit on Canadien Paints the Ice Red!

On Thursday, May the 2nd, Lars Eller; center of the Montréal Canadiens, was hit hard by Ottawa Senators defenceman Eric Gryba. There was about six and a half minutes left in the second period, Eller was trying to get a pass from fellow teammate Raphael Diaz when Gryba gave Eller a hard, high hit making him fall right on his face. As the commentator in the video below says, "(Gryba) instead of hitting him in the full body in the middle; which is fine, he only catches the head."

Many call the hit "clean", but Gryba has since then gotten a two game suspension ever since the hit. Since then, Eller has been on many sportfans' minds. Later that evening, the official MontrĂ©al Canadiens twitter had this to say about his condition:

So, is this a "clean hit"? Many, as said earlier, said that this is clean. But many also say it was a dirty hit. Either way, what do you think? Do you think hits like this, that cause athletes many injuries and problems later, will ever be totally boycotted? Do you think they should? What's your opinion? Let us know!

THIS IS THE VIDEO OF THE HIT.
